Inner Geek got the invite and says the app is totally based on WordPress, but it looks slightly different, and has some improvements, like a not-so-rich-text editor (over editing HTML), collapsible sections in the edit page, including an AJAX categories selector. No plugins though.
The original WordPress hosting and installation requires that you buy your own web hosting service which meets the WordPress minimum requirements, like PHP version 4.1 or greater and MySQL version 3.23.23 or greater and they recommend Apache as the most robust and featureful server for running WordPress, though any server that supports PHP and MySQL will do. And all this requires some degree of expertise, unlike Blogger which takes care of everything. So this new WordPress blog is great as it is already web hosted!
